Accepting false stories as news

August 16, 2024
/ by Ron Holdraker

As I predicted, false posts, news "leaks", innuendos and yes, even political speeches are rising at all time levels.

Any media can make a mistake, but not admitting a mistake, or even worse not caring about the truth has become a social acceptance. That is downright scary.

Hey, remember the January 6th video about the attacks/coup on the capital? If you don’t, stop reading here, cuz you ain’t gonna believe any truths.

Despite criminal referrals against him and a mountain of evidence showing otherwise, Trump — now a Republican presidential candidate once again — has continued to post on social media since the report was released to repeat his lie that the 2020 election was stolen from him.

All the phony court cases in all the states have been rejected, yet too many Trump supporters want...need to believe the falsehoods.

What is really scary though is the rising chatter from both Trump and his weeny supporters that has already begun for an election coming up in November.

Polls, as they are, have shown Trump losing his wave of support and  slipping, even in so called ‘key’ states.

“If this election isn’t won, I’m not sure that you’ll ever have another election in this country.”

Yeah, that is a quote from former President Donald Trump. The same guy who totally embarrassed himself appearing at the Black journalists’ convention, or the hour long ‘press conference’ he held where everybody lost count of how many times he lied. Then there was the Elon Musk interview with Trump last week that was laughable at best.

I remember a time when politics and campaigns touted policies over outright lies. I remember when then presidential Republican candidate John McCain defended Democrat Barack Obama against a racist woman at a campaign rally. John McCain urged rally supporters to stop denunciations of Barack Obama, including one woman who said she had heard that the Democrat was “an Arab.”

Gee, I wonder who started those rumors back then and recently accused Vice President Kamala Harris of happening “to turn Black” while he answered questions at a convention for Black journalists in Chicago.

The old Trump is back and the stupid follow in his footsteps. They lap up every falsehood and comment, some even preparing for "civil war" if he loses.

As a ‘former’ Republican, wanting government to steady the ship, I know there are those sick and tired of my anti-Trump columns, but get ready for more in the lead-up to the election.

Moving on...

Both Trump and Harris proclaim their intent to propose legislation to remove any payroll tax that money servers earn from tips.

Both Trump and Harris are talking out their asses. It will never happen with either of the presidential candidates. Of course, this announcement was made by both in Arizona, a ‘swing state’ where Las Vegas and Reno hospitality workers and their important endorsements live.

Joe Biden won Nevada in 2020 by less than 34,000 votes. So poaching just 10% of the state’s hospitality vote could bring Trump six badly needed electoral votes, something Harris does not want to concede

What this rhetoric shows is an undeniable trendy attempt to sway voters, much like the Biden’s forgiving of student debt.

First, a half-way intelligent congress would realize it would open the doors to more and ferocious tip claiming by every Tom, Dick and Harriet.

Then there is the loss of tax dollars in an already taxed budget.

Imagine though, lawyers, hedge fund manager and yes, even journalists and interviewers getting on the tip bandwagon.

Hey, wait a minute, tipping your favorite writer may just lead to better service and more of "your" bias in reporting techniques in the future. ...Naw
