Hard Talk..

by Ron Holdraker
October 10, 2020

or in this case...writing

No pussy footing around. I am going to lay out just where I stand on...everything.

I am a Lincoln Project Republican. I want less government and basically think President Trump is a horse’s ass.

Actually along Lincoln Project Republicans and privately defecting other R’s in the privacy of the voting booth, it may lead to even more disappointing numbers for Trump.

I think politicians like Nancy Polossi, Mitch McConnell, Steve Hoyer, Ted Cruz, Kevin McCarthy and other old demigods should be put out to pasture. They made their millions, now pack up your toys and leave. I want term limits, but those in power want to protect their butts.

While I am at it, I believe local Republicans who support Trump in every way, without question, should be neutered. The overly smart ones are telling you to pull straight line Republican, but the sane ones will do differently.

Oh, and Rochester Mayor Lovely Ann (I never would have guessed this is her middle name) Warren should resign for so many reasons.

I believe calling/labeling Barack Obama as Black, completely ignores his White mother. If Black is Black, Obama should be labeled dark cream?

I think the framers of the Constitution had no idea what the future would do with that Second Amendment concerning guns and gun ownership. Guns are nice, but do we really need to arm someone with a bazooka, or an AR-15 to replace their penis? These are not sport or casual protection instruments, they are meant to kill, period. (Note the period after the word period)

I believe Daniel Prude, the guy running naked in freezing weather, hyped up on drugs last year in Rochester, would have died if some guy named Jesus Christ was standing over him with handcuffs and a spit mask that night. The cops on the scene broke no laws and I probably would have reacted in the same fashion. So, where did Prude get the money? The drugs? Questions that have taken a far back seat.

Back to Trump...the more he speaks, the more revelations coming out, he will not detour god Trumpers from beating their chests. Yes folks, you did actually hear some Trump nutcase screaming “I will die for you” as the president had a staged drive-by around outside the Walter Reed Hospital the day before he released himself. That man’s comment is scary.

Reparations - giving families of former slaves a lump sum would be stupid. Can you imagine the formula. If you are 100% Black you get...., 50%, you get less, a quarter Black... Yes, there are serious backers of Reparations, but the whole idea is ludicrous, but a great talking point for libs.

The Electoral College..you read last week’s column. Yes, it is stupid, broken system but...

Black Lives Matter, Blue Lives Matter, Defunding Police, All Lives Matter, you really can’t win, regardless of your position. They are all overused phrases that have lost all meaning and only serve at this point to further divide.

The Supreme Court...It used to be a President and Senate would approve the best litigant available. Now, with politics and opinions divided, we have evolved into a system of chaos and ‘Gotch Last’ theology. “Swing to the far right, swing to the far left, stand up, sit down, fight, fight, fight.”

Abortion is terrible, but will never go away. This Country will never outlaw, but continue to put roadblocks, in the way for a woman to determine what happens in her body. If we make it a state-by-state decision, the only thing helped is perhaps the tourist trade in more liberal states.

A person approached my Wife Patti, a Republican Town Chairperson and #2 person on the County Republican Committee. He told her he was concerned about the effect my anti-Trump leanings would have on the newspaper. Remember, Wayne County is a dominant Republican stronghold and Trump bashing could only hurt this paper’s circulation.

Do I believe posting my opinions will hurt me, or this paper? Get this straight, the paper may be neutral, but this column, this page is me, me, me. You read this column and either agree, or disagree, but you read!

Now, for a fact check. There are 22,160 registered Republicans in Wayne County, 13,165 registered Democrats, 1,466 Conservatives, 2,877 registered Independent and 13,815 with no party affiliation.  In pure numbers, the Republicans do not necessarily have the majority of registered voters.

If it is all about numbers, Trump will probably win the overall vote tally in Wayne County, but get slaughtered just about every place else in the State and Country. Recent poll numbers (we all know how significant they are) show Trump is losing everywhere.

People get overly excited by numbers. Polls quote numbers, candidates spout numbers, we continually worry about numbers in our age progression.

Ha! I have more friends on Facebook than you do. I have a hundred thousand followers on Twitter. My circulation numbers are greater than the competition. My TV ratings are the highest...

Now, for some real talk about numbers.

People, many, would be shocked to learn that Fox News is the most-watched television network in total primetime viewers in a summer defined by the coronavirus pandemic and national unrest over systemic racism, according to Nielsen Media Research.

FOX’s Hannity and Tucker Carlson pull in viewers, even though the network now admits the shows are less factual news and more entertainment factors for far right hounds. No question the right and far right bite down on every word these commentators spew, but there is a reason these show garner the numbers.

Overall FOX has cornered the right/far right market and for the most part (except perhaps CNN) follow either mild left leaning, or neutral news presentations.  Bottom line, there are more middle of the road, left and far left watchers, but more quasi neutral networks to choose from. The same is true of polls. Depending on the audience and how they are divided by various questions, polls are skewed.

In the end, after the election, I will want to gloat over the cancellation of Trump, but I won’t. Oh sure, there are a few I would really like to give a raspberry, or two: my sister-in-law, my nephew, that guy in Sodus who canceled his subscription in a dramatic fashion, a few others, but this country is bigger than all of us and our petty grudges. The fear for the future is that foreign interests will continue to divide and we do not reach the peace that is required for a strong democracy.

Oh, by the way, Trump is a horse’s ass.
