Anyone reading this column on a regular basis knows I think New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is a walking, talking idiot. His police, jail, arraignment policies are completely far left bullshit. He and the Democrat-controlled senate and assembly passed stupid laws without really consulting with police and municipal courts, State Republicans, or without any forethought of what would eventually happen.
As a result of their pushed-through changes, jails did empty, prisons were closed, but police and local judges were denied making decades-long decisions on who should, or should not be jailed in certain circumstances and crimes.
The result? People who belonged behind bars were immediately released without consideration of their crimes, or the victims. Then came the very expected result of many charged with crimes failing to show up for court appearances, over and over again. Police were, and are, kept busy chasing down court no-show warrants, since there are really no penalties for not showing up....time and time again.
But, wait, the NYS Democrats are not the only morons in office.
Republicans were also upset that the number of seniors who died from coronavirus were counted in the number of total deaths and not separately for those who died, who were living in nursing homes before being hospitalized.
This was a unnecessary number game played by very stupid politicians to gain points in public opinion.
“It is downright despicable for the governor to have allowed for the under reporting of the deaths due to COVID-19 in nursing homes,” said Assemblyman Brian Manktelow.
“The under reporting of COVID deaths in New York’s nursing homes by as much as 50 percent is a betrayal of the public trust and Dr. Zucker must take accountability for this. I have lost faith in his ability to lead this critical agency and provide information that can be trusted.,” wrote State Senator Pam Helming.
COVID-19 gave some politicians the right to accuse and abuse this pandemic to benefit themselves and their party goals. It basically is called ‘political football’.
This foray of political crap has become all too familiar on the national and state levels. Half truths, outright lies and figure manipulation has become all the rage. After all, the loyal ‘Party’ excludes rational thinking and decision making.
There are few, if any, discussions, compromises and reaching across the aisle to find solutions. It has become a game of “got you last” that has led to division.
Perhaps George Washington was right.
In a 2014 Washington Times article it was written:
“Washington argued that political parties needed to be restrained in a free country with a government empowered by the consent of the governed and established through popular elections. He warned of the possibility fearing they could distract the government from its required duty to the people and even lead to the eradication of the freedoms established by the founding...
It serves always to distract the public councils and enfeeble the public administration. It agitates the community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms, kindles the animosity of one part against another, foments occasionally riot and insurrection. It opens the door to foreign influence and corruption, which finds a facilitated access to the government itself through the channels of party passions. Thus the policy and the will of one country are subjected to the policy and will of another. Washington argued that political parties needed to be restrained in a free country with a government empowered by the consent of the governed and established through popular elections. He warned of the possibility fearing they could distract the government from its required duty to the people and even lead to the eradication of the freedoms established by the founding...
America is at the mercy of two powerful political parties. If a strong candidate wants to get elected to office in this country, one usually needs some affiliation to the major parties.
We see from history that third party forays are limited in strength and often serve only to undermine one or another of the major parties in the capacity of a ‘spoiler.’”
My solution? Instead of using the name political parties, we now assign ‘Political Gang’. The Republican Gang, the Democrat Gang is far more in line with current situations.
Unfortunately, the Republican Gang is going through moral decisions and the Democrat Gang has absolutely no idea where they are headed.
If Washington could see America now, probably the only thing that he could say, after getting over the shock, would be: “I told you so!”
