Last year, Wayne County celebrated its 200th birthday with many bicentennial events. This month the Clyde Global Methodist Church will celebrate the 200th anniversary of the incorporation of a Methodist Church in the village.
Originally meeting as a Sunday School class led by circuit riding clergy, the incorporation into a formal church took place on November 23, 1824. Over the years, the church met at a few locations, but mostly the current brick building on the corner of Sodus and Caroline Streets was its home. The Church has undergone several name changes as mergers happened.
In March of this year, the local congregation disaf. liated from the United Methodists and joined the Global Methodists. The Clyde GMC will celebrate its bicentennial by having a . oat in the village's Festival of Lights parade on November 23rd.
On Sunday the 24th, there will be a special worship service at 10:30 to which all current and former members and friends are invited to attend. Rev. Jeff McDowell, a former pastor at the church, will deliver the morning message. Then, a dinner will be held in the fellowship room with the meats catered. Rolls, dessert and beverages will be provided. Attendees are asked to bring a vegetable, salad, or scalloped potato dish to serve 15 people.
Reservations for dinner must be phoned to Pam Anstee (315-923-3491) by Nov.15th. Following dinner, a program will be held in the sanctuary with time devoted for attendees to share memories as well as the history of the church given by Loreen Jorgensen. Worship and the program are open to all.
