The summer didn’t slow the Lyons Middle-High School down, as the excitement of the L.Y.O.N.S. Summer program kept the energy alive. The program hosted 120 campers from kindergarten to eighth grade who participated in a variety of enriching activities. This program, made possible through grant funding, provided a safe and engaging environment, complete with free meals and experiences that guarantee an unforgettable summer.

Throughout the program, students participated in a variety of activities. These included weekly field trips to places such as the Strong Museum of Play, Seabreeze, and Watkins Glen, as well as engaging assemblies provided by the Lyons Public Library. Some program highlights were the interactive STEM science program, Camp Invention, where students explored the wonders of science and technology, and the high-energy Band Boot Camp, which allowed budding musicians to hone their skills. Additionally, students enjoyed Outdoor Water Day and had the opportunity to act as coaches while others cheered on their favorite staff members during the Staff Basketball Game, which featured surprise guest players Superintendent Dr. Barr and Lyons School Resource Officer TJ Radka.

The success of the L.Y.O.N.S. Summer Program is a testament to the dedication of its staff, led by Assistant and Afterschool Program Directors Steven Dolgos and Debbie Lester. Lester expressed her enthusiasm for the program's impact, saying, "We look forward to providing youth from our community a safe and fun-filled summer."

As the summer comes to a close, students and parents are already looking forward to next year's program, eager to see what new adventures await. The L.Y.O.N.S. Summer Program continues to be a shining example of how community-driven initiatives can positively impact the lives of young people, offering them a safe space to learn, grow, and have fun during the summer months.
