This December 18th at noon, across the country, a campaign will be held from Arlington to over 3000 locations to honor our deceased Veterans, many killed in action. There will be a short ceremony, Memorial Wreaths for the Armed Services, a few appropriate words and laying of wreaths on Veterans graves.
It’s called “Wreaths Across America”, and this Walworth will join in the national ceremonies honoring our Veterans at the Walworth Town Cemetery on Sherburne Road.
As a community, Walworth has donated the 120 wreaths necessary to cover all six of their cemeteries in pine: Walworth, Freewill, Baker, Gould, Finley (Lusk) and West Walworth.
A huge thank you goes to Mr. Chilson and Mr. Anderson who wanted to be sure all veterans had wreaths. Many others too numerous to list, donated multiple wreaths or what they could. Their generosity has given a good head start on next year’s campaign also.
“Special gratitude to
neighbors Bob Anderson, Cheryl Murray Dunbar, and Monica Lee Sauerfriesner for volunteering to coordinate wreath laying at West Walworth, Baker, and Freewill cemeteries,” said Walworth Coordinator Guy Bringley.
After formal ceremonies at the Town Cemetery, volunteers will split up to follow those coordinators to the other cemeteries to lay wreaths.
Walworth residents, put December 18th at noon on your calendars and show the Nation that one little burg can hang with the biggest of them. All are invited to lay wreaths or just observe the ceremony. “On behalf of all Veterans everywhere alive or deceased, thank you for a great job, Walworth”, said Bringley.
