The Wayne Central School District has announced that Liam Keeney, an 11th-grade student and accomplished French horn player, has been accepted into the prestigious Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (RPYO).

Membership in the RPYO is a significant accomplishment, requiring students in grades 8-12 to undergo a rigorous audition process. 

Liam showcased his talent by mastering a level 5 solo, performing for a panel of judges and the RPYO conductor, and demonstrating his skill through sight-reading.

As a member of the RPYO, Liam has committed to a full year of intensive musical training and performance. Highlights of the program include the opportunity to tour Boston and Montreal, collaborate with Boston Symphony musicians, and play alongside the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra in the annual Side-by-Side Concert.

Liam will also perform in Rochester’s premier performance venues and participate in periodic trips designed to enrich the musical experience.

In addition to this remarkable achievement, Liam was recently inducted into the 2024 Chapter of the Wayne Central National Honor Society, underscoring his dedication to both academics and the arts.

Liam is the son of Joe and Yelena Keeney.
