Did you know that cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the number 1 cause of death in the United states killing close to 787,000 people in 2011 per the most recent statistics*. About 2,150 Americans die each day from these diseases, one every 40 seconds. Also alarming, CVD is still the number 1 killer of American women and claims more lives than all cancers combined for both men and women.* Despite these startling statistics, the good news is that heart disease is largely preventable for both men and women and you can learn how to possibly prevent and/or manage your risk factors!
To help give community members the power to prevent heart disease by reducing their risk factors, Newark-Wayne Community Hospital is again sponsoring their annual “Go Red” event from 9 a.m. to 12 Noon on Thursday, February 5th in the Hospital’s main lobby. “Go Red” is the American Heart Association’s signature event to bring attention to the importance of prevention of cardiovascular diseases.
To participate, we ask that you WEAR RED and come to the hospital for a mini “heart fair” including: blood pressure screens, information on heart disease and stroke, nutrition and diabetes, give-aways, drawings and more! “Go Red” will conclude with a group photo in the lobby at 12:00 Noon of available staff and visitors who are wearing red that day! The event is being sponsored by the Cardiac Rehabilitation Department at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital a Sands-Constellation Heart Institute, Rochester General Hospital program.
