State Troopers out of Lyons made a traffic stop on Saturday (5/4) at 7:55 p.m. on Canal Street in Lyons. As the Trooper approached the vehicle, the driver threw his car in reverse, striking the patrol car.
A vehicle chase ensued with the driver throwing bags of marijuana out of the fleeing vehicle. Police set up stinger (spiked) strips as the chase led through Clyde Marengo Road in Clyde, flattening one of the fleeing vehicle’s tires. The chase finally ended a short time later in Clyde.
Taken into custody was Billy Wells, age 30, of 62 Adams Street in the Village of Newark.
Wells was subsequently arrested for Criminal Mischief in the Third degree; Destroying Physical Evidence, Criminal Sale of Marijuana in the Second Degree; Criminal Sale of Marijuana in the Third Degree; two counts of Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer; Resisting Arrest; and Criminal Obstruction of Governmental Administration in the Second Degree.
Troopers stopped along the chase route and recovered a total of 9.5 ounces of marijuana.
Wells was remanded to Centralized Arraignment and remanded to jail on No Bail to appear in Court.
