Newark Village Police responded to a report of a Burglary at Sal’s Ice Cream Shop at 508 South Main Street in Newark on Sunday (7/24) at 7:11 p.m.

The two shop owners, Sally and Russell Malkowski, both 72 years old were confronted by Leesa Catalano, age 31, of 363 Bloom Road, Apt. 3 in Newark, demanding money. A physical struggle ensued and Sally received scratches and a bump on her head. Her husband, Russell suffered a bite mark.

Catalano fled the scene without any money and was found shortly after walking on Prospect Street. She was charged with Robbery in the 3rd Degree and two counts of Harassment in the 2nd Degree. She was arraigned in Newark Court and remanded to jail on $10,000 cash/$20,000 bond to reappear in Newark Court.
