Newark Village Police reported the arrest on Tuesday (7/10) morning of Richard Rodas, age 40, currently residing at the Manchester Motel in the Town of Manchester.
It is alleged that while staying at 376 East Union Street in Newark, back on May 18, Rodas became agitated, threatening to kill himself and other people, eventually barricading himself in the apartment. An acquaintance called police. Rodas first broke out a window, then ripped out the window frame, throwing it to the ground, followed by a table and a lamp. Meanwhile he began flailing a butcher knife threatening to harm himself.
Police negotiators were called in and set up a perimeter. After some time Rodas took a quantity of medication, began mellowing out and cut himself. Police camera confirmed he passed out. Police entered and took him into custody and transported him to the hospital for treatment.
Rodas was charged with Criminal Mischief in the Third degree and Reckless Endangerment.
