The Wayne County Office of the Sheriff reported the arrest on Friday (7/26) at 3 p.m. of Matthew S. Helker, age 40, of Vienna Road Palmyra on an arrest warrant stemming from an incident that occurred on July 9th, 2024. 

Helker was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree and Menacing a Police Officer in the 2nd Degree. It is alleged that Helker committed these crimes when a Palmyra Police Officer and a Wayne County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to his address for a 911 hang up call. 

It is alleged that Helker menaced the police officer with a baseball bat and threatened the officer to get off of his property after his phone dialed 911 that evening causing the response. 

Deputies were assisted in the arrest by Palmyra Police Department. Helker was transported to the Wayne County Jail  for CAP Court arraignment and released to appear in Palmyra Court.
