Newark Village Police responded to a report of youths outside the Byrne Dairy Store on East Union Street at 1 p.m. on Saturday (1/27).
As the officer was northbound on Scott Street, he spotted a man yelling obscenities to people across the street. The man was told to stop and began giving the officer a hard time. As the officer approached the man he held the skateboard up in a threatening manner.
A fight began with the man as he struck the officer in the head. The man was tazed and taken down. Jose I. Colon-Roldan, age 20, of 110 West Myrtle Avenue in Newark was subsequently arrested for felony Assault on a Police Officer in the Second Degree, Resisting Arrest and Disorderly Conduct.
Colon-Roldan was arraigned and remanded to jail on $2000 cash bail.
