Ready to launch into a rewarding career in law enforcement ?
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Exam is set for Saturday, October 17th. Interested males and females must sign up online by September 25th.
To qualify for the exam, candidates must be:
• Between the ages of 19 and 42. Candidates must be at least 19 years of age on or before October 17, 2026 to be admitted to the written test. Eligibility for appointment as a Deputy Sheriff begins when the candidate reaches age 20. Consideration may be given for military service.
• U.S. citizen at appointment.
• You must have a valid New York State Driver’s License.
• You must live in Wayne County, or a contiguous county.
• No felony level convictions
• A high school diploma, or higher
• Veterans are allowed extra exam points.
This exam is used to establish an eligible list to hire from. NY civil service rules will apply. Hired candidates must:
• Pass the written civil service exam
• Pass a polygraph test
• Pass a physical/phycological test
• Pass a medical test
Upon being selected, candidates will go through an extensive six month policy academy where they will learn ethics, cultural diversity, crisis intervention, event de-escalation, evidence handling, accident handling, weapon/firearms instruction, professionalism, how to handle bias, constitutional, criminal and civil law, handling physical confrontation, DWI and speed enforcement.
Selected candidates will work with professionals to work towards complete physical conditioning for the job.
