NY to spend $10M on security at religious schools, centers

November 3, 2018
/ by Assoicated Press

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) New York state is looking to help private and religious schools and cultural centers improve their security.

The office of Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday announced $10 million in available grants that can go toward surveillance cameras, secure doors, security training and other expenses related to preventing attacks. Private or religious schools, cultural or community organizations are eligible to apply for individual grants of up to $50,000.

Last year the state awarded nearly $15 million in similar grants. The funding was approved after a series of threats made against Jewish community centers.
