On Monday (9/9) State Senator Helming and State Assemblyman Brian Manktelow were on hand to present a Proclamation Honoring the 110th Anniversary of the Ohmann Theatre, located at 65 William Street in Lyons.

The landmark theatre first opened its doors on December 6, 1915, as one of the largest movie houses in Upstate New York.

The Ohmann Theatre was operated by founder Burt Ohmann, and later by his sons Robert and Myron.  Robert’s eldest son, Bob brought the theatre back to the Ohmann family in 2005, leading the theatre’s complete reconstruction and renovation, including the addition of best-in-class projection, lighting, surround sound, and new seating.  

The new seating was built to match the original seating from 1915 by the same firm, the Irwin Company. The original seats were saved for use in the balcony.

Owner Bob Ohmann, along with representatives from Wayne County and the Town of Lyons  attended the presentation.

“Congratulations to Bob Ohmann and the Ohmann Theatre for celebrating 110 years of operation in our community. Truly an integral part of Wayne County, the theatre and Bob are always there to support us all. Not only that, but I had the privilege of joining Senator Pam Helming in presenting Bob a State Accommodation award, for distinguished service throughout our region,” said Assemblyman Manktelow.
