The Lyons Central School District has been awarded the NYS Extended School Day/School Violence Prevention Program Grant, securing $450,000 annually. 

The grant allows the district to continue providing after-school and summer programming through the L.Y.O.N.S. After School and Summer Program while expanding opportunities for students and families. 

According to a statement from the district, these extended school day programs provide funding for professional development, STEM and enrichment activities, and supplies that enhance student experiences. 

Through this funding, Lyons students benefit from programs and services provided by community partners, including Literacy Volunteers of Wayne County, Peaceful Schools, Wayne MOST, Lyons Public Library, Glow Up Girl, The Space Martial Arts, Family Counseling Service of the Finger Lakes, Wayne County Arts Council, Cornell Cooperative Extension, and others.

"We are grateful to New York State for its continued confidence in our district," said Superintendent Dr. Matthew Barr. "This grant allows us to sustain programs that enrich our students’ educational experience, strengthen community partnerships, and provide opportunities that extend beyond the school day."

The renewed award ensures these programs will continue serving Lyons students through 2031.
