Two performances of “A Tea Out of Time” to be held in Pultneyville

There will be two performances of "A Tea Out of Time" to be held at Gates Hall in Pultneyville. Friday, November 1 at 7 PM, and Sunday, November 3 at 2 PM.

In 2017, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage in New York State, the Wayne County Historical Society produced the play, originally written by the late and former Director Larry Ann Evans and museum volunteer Linda Stevenson.

The plot includes 16 ladies from Wayne County’s past. Each one has received a mysterious invitation, but no one knows who sent it. All are curious and brave enough to attend.

What’s the catch?

These women are all from different years in Wayne County history, which they begin to realize as each arrives for the tea party.

The audience will meet these notable women, born in or residents of Wayne, such as Assemblywoman Mildred Taylor (Lyons 1960), the first woman from Wayne County elected in that position, and Emma Biddlecom Sweet (Macedon 1895), Susan B. Anthony’s cousin and secretary. They will be joined by others dating from 8000 B.C. to 1974.

After sorting themselves by skirt length, they sit for tea and conversation. Each woman’s fascinating story is revealed bit by bit, poignantly and with humor, while awaiting the arrival of the guest of honor: celebrated suffragist, Susan B. Anthony.

A Tea Out of Time entertainingly examines what one woman might ask another from 100 years in the future.

Actors include local women from Wayne County including author Linda Stevenson, Museum Director Deb Hall, Michelle Logins, and Nan Hanna-Paquin, who, along with others from the region will share the story of these remarkable women in a unique way. These staged readings will be the first since it was originally staged in 2017.

All proceeds will benefit the Wayne County Historical Society (WCHS) and co-sponsor Williamson-Pultneyville Historical Society (WPHS). Tickets  available online at waynehistory.org/events
