Residents and travelers through Walworth have been asking the Town for updates regarding a broken traffic signal. Supervisor Michael Donalty issued the following statement:
"As many are already aware, the traffic signal at the intersection of Walworth- Marion Road and Walworth-Ontario Road was struck by lightning mid-month and is not functioning properly. The signal currently flashes yellow for east- west traffic on Walworth-Marion Road, and flashes red for traffic proceeding north or south on Walworth-Ontario Road.
East-west traffic encountering the flashing yellow light MUST slow upon approach and proceed with caution through the intersection; traffic on Walworth-Ontario Road must come to a complete STOP and ensure the intersection is free of passing traffic before proceeding. Portable STOP signs have also been placed to assist in directing you.
Unfortunately, the traffic signal was damaged beyond repair and a replacement has been ordered, but the new signal is not expected to be installed within the next 30 days.
We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding as we move forward with returning the intersection to the normal and safer condition."
