NEWARK: Marianne Arseneau, MD, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2026 at the age of 81. Born in Lyons, NY, in 1945, Marianne graduated from Lyons High School in 1963. She went on to attend Syracuse University, graduating in 1967.
Driven by a lifelong passion for learning, Marianne also graduated from the Katharine Gibbs School before attending the University of Arizona, where she studied anthropology. She worked at the Eastman School of Music before pursuing her calling in medicine. Marianne graduated from Albany Medical College in 1978 and completed her medical internship there in 1979. She then specialized in radiology, completing her residency at Rochester General Hospital and earning her Board of Radiology certification in 1982.
For 24 years, Marianne served as a radiologist at Newark Wayne Hospital, where she was widely respected for her clinical expertise, thoughtful judgment, and compassionate care for patients and colleagues alike.
In her retirement, Marianne traveled with her husband Russell, visiting 6 of the 7 continents in the world. She became an avid knitter and was known for creating beautiful sweaters and other knit items for grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Marianne is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Russell Harris; her son, Daniel Harris; her daughter-in-law, Emily; her cherished grandchildren, Christopher and Lily, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She will be remembered for her kindness, dedication, dry sense of humor, and the profound impact she had on all who knew her.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, 124 West Miller Street, Newark, NY 14513. Private burial will be held in South Lyons Cemetery.
