December 4, 2025
/ by WayneTimes.com

WALWORTH: Lyle Bassage, 86, passed away peacefully after a short illness, on December 3, 2025. Born on March 18, 1939, in Walworth, New York, Lyle remained deeply connected to his hometown throughout his life and was affectionately known by his family as the "mayor" of Walworth.

Lyle pursued higher education at Alfred State and later at Brockport, preparing for a lifelong career in education. He dedicated 36 years to teaching in the Webster Central School District, with 35 of those years spent at State Road Elementary, where he made many lifelong friends.

Beyond the classroom, Lyle was known for his sense of humor and his love of a good joke. His beautiful tenor voice brought joy to many occasions especially when he sang Oh Holy Night on Christmas Eve and The Lord’s Prayer at both of his daughter’s weddings as well as his mother’s funeral. Those who knew him will remember him as a generous and giving person.

Lyle is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Jean; daughters, Dawn (Duane) Kittleson and Denise (Scott) Bickert; and grandchildren, Andy (Morgan) Kittleson, Becca Kittleson, Caitlin Bickert, and Kylie Bickert. He was predeceased by his parents, Howard and Hazel Bassage; his sister, Janet Bassage; and granddaughter Emily Paige Bickert.

Visitation hours will be held from 2-5 PM on Saturday (December 13) at Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapels, 1040 Rte. 31, Macedon, NY 14502.  A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday (December 14), 2 PM at Walworth United Methodist Church, 3679 Main Street, Walworth, NY. Lyle will be laid to rest in Marion Cemetery in the Spring.

Lyle’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. May his legacy bring comfort and inspiration to those he touched throughout his life.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Lyle may be directed to Golisano Children’s Hospital, urmc.rochester.edu
