Griepsma, Peter J.

SODUS POINT, NEW YORK/PALMETTO, FLORIDA: Peter J. Griepsma, 85, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at the Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Florida.

In keeping with Peter’s wishes, calling hours will be from 10 AM – Noon at the Norton Funeral Home, 48 W, Main St. Sodus, NY, Saturday, August 24, 2024. Burial to follow at the Lake View Cemetery, Williamson, NY with full Military Honors.

Peter was born December 20, 1938 in Rochester, NY, the son of the late John P. and Nellie S. (DuBois) Griepsma. He attended Williamson High School. Peter enlisted in the Navy in March of 1956 and was in active duty from August 1957 to May 1959 and in the reserves until he was discharged in 1962. He went to work for Rochester Gas and Electric in 1960, at the Sodus and Wolcott substations as a Lineman and retired on July 1, 1994 as a Line Foreman.

He is survived by his wife, Paulette S. (Sherman) Griepsma, his daughter Cathy (John), his son Christopher (Lynne), his grandchildren, Derek (Hannah), Brandon, Nellie, his great grandchild, Ryley, and his brother, Albert (Patricia). He is also survived by many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Peter is preceded in death by his beloved son, Andrew Peter Griepsma, and his in-laws, George and Vera (Hartley) Sherman.

Peter was an avid golfer who hit three holes-in-one in his lifetime. He was also a great bowler who just missed out on a perfect game, scoring a 298. He loved being outdoors and spent many years tending his vegetable garden, boating, camping and hunting. Peter loved woodworking and had a shop at his home where he designed clocks and many other projects.

Peter was an active member of the VFW and the American Legion, where, over the years, he held the Offices of Chaplain and Sergeant-at-Arms. His spent his entire life volunteering for many causes that were dear to his heart.

Peter was a loving man who readily had hugs and kisses available for each person he met. He loved to sing karaoke, listen to country music, and playing card games on his computer while listening to talk radio. Peter loved to laugh and always had a sarcastic comeback readily available. If you knew Peter well, you knew he was a Badass.
