PALMYRA: A longtime resident, Sparky, as he was commonly known, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at age 93. Born in Williamsport, PA, Sparky soon moved to East Palmyra. He graduated from Newark High School and enlisted in the Navy. He married Geraldine Bavis of Palmyra of whom he was predeceased in 2012 and is survived by his daughters Vicki Stevenson, Cathy (John) VanScott, son Ron (Deb) Hall, as well as his wife of 8 years, Sharon, and step-daughter Colleen (Mark) Sanson along with 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Sparky worked at Garlocks, Sherburne Ford, the Palmyra Community Center when it was on the second floor of the Village Hall, and later retired from the Wayne County Sheriff Dept as court security. He was a regular volunteer at the Palmyra Police Dept and as a Canal Dock Greeter during his retirement. He was honored to be one of the last Grand Marshals of the Palmyra Canal Town Days parade. He loved to watch and play sports, especially baseball. There will be no calling hours and services will be at the convenience of the family. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at MM Ewing Continuing Care Center of Canandaigua for their daily kindness and compassion over the last 2 years.
