HOWELL, MI: Lois Ann Harvey passed away peacefully on January 28, 2025, in Howell, Michigan, at the age of 79. She was born in Newark, New York, on April 13, 1945, to Raymond and Anna (Hermanet) Rommel. In April of 1966, Lois met her soulmate, John, and their hearts became one on July 29, 1967, in Lyons, NY. Their union was a testament to true love and partnership.
Lois was a woman of intellect and dedication. She earned her Associate’s degree from Rochester Business Institute in 1966 and moved to Howell, MI, in 1978, where she would leave a lasting impact. For 27 years, Lois served as an Librarian for Southeast and Hutchings Elementary Schools, touching the lives of countless students. Her commitment to education was recognized when she was honored as Michigan Education Support Person of the Year for 2005/2006.
Lois’s service extended beyond her professional life. She was an integral part of the Brandon Chase Condo Association, where she held the positions of Secretary and Treasurer for many years. Her spiritual home was at the First Presbyterian Church of Howell, where she was a member for 46 years and served as a deacon, offering guidance and support to her church community.
An avid gardener, Lois found joy in tending to her own garden as well as contributing to community gardens. Her hands not only cultivated plants but also the growth and nurturing of her family. She was a dedicated mom and grandma, always putting others before herself. Lois loved reading to her grandchildren, instilling in them the same love for books and learning that she held dear. Those who knew Lois would describe her as loving, selfless, and generous. She had a heart that radiated warmth and kindness, and she was always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. Lois’s selflessness was evident in every aspect of her life, from her dedication to her family to her involvement in her community.
Lois is survived by her beloved husband, John; her children, Lisa (Rick) Strutz and Tricia (Ben) McAllister; her cherished grandchildren, Joey and Lindsey Strutz, John and Kate McAllister; and her siblings, Kenneth and Nancy. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Anna Rommel.
A celebration of life for Lois will be held at 3PM Sunday, February 16, 2025 at the First Presbyterian Church of Howell. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church in Lois’s honor.
