Leonard, Sr., Richard A.

August 15, 2024
/ by WayneTimes.com

Richard A. Leonard, Sr. entered into rest August 12, 2024 at Newark Manor Nursing Home after a valiant battle with health issues at the age of 94.

Richard was born February 14, 1930 in Endicott, NY to Albert J. Leonard and Valentine Mathieu Leonard.  He lived in Savannah most of his life and most recently at Duck Lake.  He worked many jobs but mostly as a logger and retired from LSW.

Richard was a hard worker and enjoyed working on his lawn and large garden. He gave away a lot from his garden over the years to those in need.  He loved all animals, especially dogs and horses.  He loved spending time  outdoors and with his family.  He was much loved by his family, friends and caretakers.

He is survived by daughter Lydia Garrison, son Richard A. (Shannon) Leonard, Jr., daughters Susan Durham, Melody (Alan) McKinney and son Riccardo (Julie) Werthmann; grandchildren Richard (Sarah) Garrison, Dan Durham, Denise Durham, Brandon Teachout, Ashley Purdy and great grandson Jacob Garrison and several nieces and nephews.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and uncle.

He was predeceased by his wife of almost 70 years, Betty Washburn Leonard, his parents, his sister Fran Renee May, sons-in-law Ralph Garrison, Gary Durham, Mark Swanson, daughter-in-law Martha Leonard and by many family members and friends along with many beloved animals; most recently his little dog Missy.

He had a warm and kind character and will be missed by many.

The family thanks all staff at Newark Manor Nursing Home for all the kindness and wonderful care they gave him.
