Macedon: Samuel Marks, 83, passed away peacefully on July 16th, 2026. Born in Tonawanda on February 12th, 1943, he grew up in Cortland, before moving to Macedon, and later in life settled in Yates County’s Italy Valley, where he would remain. He worked as a mechanic, initially with Wilberts at their original Webster location from about 1958 to 1980, then with the NYS Thruway Authority until his retirement in 2008. He was a longtime volunteer member of the Potter Fire Department and was a union man through and through.

He loved classic cars, Louis L’Amour books, and was a proud “unreconstructed hippie” who went to Woodstock to see Joan Baez. An incredibly generous person, he was the first person everyone would call for help, knowing he never judged, and the help he gave was never conditional. He would just help however he could, if he could, and even if he couldn’t do much, would still be there to let you know you weren’t alone. He was also very mischievous, with an oft-spoken catch phrase of “don’t get angry, get even” preceding stories of his numerous “pranks.”

He was predeceased by his first three wives, Carol, Diane, and Sue, his stepson Harley, daughter Juanita, brothers Lester, Bruce, and Larry, and nephew Ronnie. He is survived by his life partner Maracita Moore, son Kenneth, stepson Theodore, niece Dawn, grandchildren Timothy, Myrrah, and Meaghan, and great-grandson Richard. There will be a celebration of his life at Indian Pines Park Pavilion in Penn Yan on August 22nd, 2026, from 1-4 p.m. for all who wish to attend.
