/ by WayneTimes.com

Mary Sanders Pierce, 102, died peacefully October 20, 2024, at The Terrace in Queensbury, NY. Born October 8, 1922, in Syracuse, NY, she was the daughter of James V. and Hilda (Bausch) Sanders. She attended Syracuse University where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority.

She lived in Palmyra, NY with her husband, Hart B. Pierce, Jr., an attorney, to whom she was married for 49 years. Upon his death, she moved to Canadaigua, NY, later moving to Saratoga Springs.

Mary loved to travel, was an avid reader and was interested in politics and current events. She began each day by reading the morning newspaper and doing the crossword puzzle. Her greatest joy, however, was her family.

She was predeceased by her husband, Hart B. Pierce, Jr., a son, Jonathan S. Pierce, and her sisters, Helen S. Demong, Elizabeth S. Smith and Ruth S. Gifford. Surviving are her four children: Hart B. Pierce III (Susan) of Aztec, NM; Gretchen P. Nichol (Jeffrey) of Mendon, VT; Suzanne B. Pierce of Glens Falls, NY; Joan L. Pierce (James Bushneck) of North Syracuse, NY;  four grandchildren: Peter B. Nichol (Ann Mak) of Estero, FL; Thomas W. Nichol (Katie) of Chesterfield, MO; Sarah Coats (Justin) of Farmington, NY; R. Benton Coleates (Brooke) of Green Bay, WI; seven great-grandchildren: Alexandra, Olivia and Avery Nichol, Julian, Dean and Sofia Coats and Kellan Coleates and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A private family service will be held at a later date. A special thank you to the staff at The Terrace and High Peaks Hospice for their wonderful care. Memorial contributions may be made to High Peaks Hospice at 1247 Dix Ave., Hudson Falls, NY 12839 or online at https://highpeakshospice.org/  or to Disabled American Veterans at DAV.org .
