February 10, 1940 - August 9, 2026

Wolcott: Joan M. Pitts, 86, passed away peacefully on August 9th, 2026, at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Joan was born February 10, 1940, in Alton, NY to the late Frank S. and Gretchen (Grosze) Waite. 

A graduate of the Sodus School District, she was employed in Newark, NY at the well-known Sarah Coventry Jewelry Company.  Joan also dedicated many years of her career as a Teacher’s Aide at the Clyde, Sodus, Red Creek and North Rose-Wolcott School Districts. Joan retired in 2016 from the North Rose Elementary School.

Joan enjoyed spending time with her husband, family, and friends in many activities over the years, including archery, bowling, boating and camping. Joan also loved reading, cooking for her family and getting together with cousins and friends for coffee or lunch.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Walter Pitts; Children, Michelle (Forrest) Dates and Jay Pitts; grandchildren, Corryn (Travis) Frazer, Wyatt Dates, Alyson Dates and two great-grandchildren.

The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care and love provided by the Wayne County Nursing Home, especially the Nurses, CNA’s and Assistants who provided daily care. Everyone from Admissions, Greeters, Cleaners to the wonderful Activities Dept.; all of it was top notch and appreciated by the family.

Family and friends are invited to a graveside service at the NYS Veteran’s Cemetery of the Finger Lakes, 6632 RT-96A, Romulus, NY, 14541 on Thursday, August 20th at 11:00 AM.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Wayne County Nursing Home, Activities Dept., 1529 Nye Road, Lyons, NY, 14489.
