Riviello, Donald R. (Don)

CLYDE: Mr. Donald R. Riviello (Don), 88, of 98 Sibley Street, Clyde, NY, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Monday, October 14. At his request, there will be no prior calling hours.

Family and friends are invited to attend a mass of Christian burial and celebration of Don’s life on Friday, October 25, 2024, at 10 am at St. John’s Church, St. Joseph the Worker Parish.

Inurnment with full military honors will immediately follow in St. John’s cemetery in Clyde, NY. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions in his memory to C-S Booster Club: C/O Lynne Carnevale, 132 Duncan Street, Clyde, NY 14433 or St. John’s Church Memorial Fund, 43 W. DeZeng Street, Clyde, NY 14433.

Don was born on November 16, 1935, in Avis Pennsylvania to the late Forley (Punkins) and Dorothy (Dot) (Saiers) Riviello. He spent his younger years in Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania and in 1947, Don and his older brother Melvin (Sonny) played in the first Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA and Don was able to return to the 70th anniversary celebration of the series in the summer of 2017.

His family moved to Clyde, NY when he was 12 years old and he attended and graduated from Clyde High School, Class of 1953, where he met and married his wife of 66 years, Phyllis A. Castellano.

In 1954, he entered the United States Marine Corp and served in Korea. Upon returning, he settled in Clyde and opened his business, Riviello’s Meats & Groceries, operating successfully for several years. After selling the business, he was employed by Parker Hannifin in Clyde, and later he worked and retired from the Clyde Post Office as a Rural Letter Carrier.

After retiring, he and his wife enjoyed 23 wonderful years in the Florida sunshine in Lake Worth, Florida.

Don was an avid Baseball and Penn State Nittany Lion Fan. He spent many years coaching American Legion and umping little league games as well as traveling often with many friends and family members to Happy Valley to see his treasured Lions. He loved the outdoors and spent many years hunting and also enjoyed mentoring young hunters. He also enjoyed traveling and brought his family along on many adventures including a six-week trip across country and many trips along the Eastern Coast. Most of all, he loved playing Poker, especially enjoyed hosting his buddies for their monthly and sometimes weekly poker nights.

Don is survived by his son Richard Riviello of Lake Worth, Florida and two daughters, Karen and Donna Riviello, both of Clyde, NY: his sister, Carole Sharp of Clyde, sisters in law, Eileen (Robert) Riviello, Diane (Jim) Darnell and Suzi (Tom) Castellano, of Clyde, and Julie (Rod) Riviello of Plymouth, Massachusetts, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis (Fifi Castellano), his

son, Steven Mark Riviello; brother- Melvin (Sonny), Robert (Monk) and Rodney; brother in law, Paul (Carole) Sharp of Clyde; sister in law, Elizabeth (Sonny) of Huber Heights, Ohio and brother and sister in law, Tony and Doris Castellano, of Clyde and Patricia (Tom) Castellano of Clifton Springs.
