LYONS: Donald C. Smith, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 5, 2024, in Hospice Care at Newark Wayne Community Hospital, after a long battle with Dementia.

Burial was in Fairville Cemetery.  Memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be made to Fairville Fire Department, 2963 NY-88, Newark, NY 14513.

 Don was born at 7134 Bauer Van Wickle Rd, Lyons, NY on June 3, 1933, the son of the late Albert Stanley Smith and Emma Grace Petrus.  He was raised by his Aunt Debra and Uncle Esmond Jordan.  Don was married on July 24, 1981 to his wife, Joan L. Smith.  He worked for the New York State Canal System at the Dry Dock location in Lyons, NY for 30 years and retired February 1991.  Don loved the outdoors, farming, lawn mowing, working the garden, and spending time on his antique farm tractor BIG RED which was his pride and joy.  Keeping with Don’s wishes for a private burial at the convenience of the family, Don would like family and friends to remember the good times you shared with him.

He is survived by his wife, Joan L. Smith; stepson James (Christine) Arnitz, stepdaughter Lynda Arnitz Quinn; grandson Micheal (Shelli) Arnitz, granddaughter Alecia (Josh) Young; great grandchildren and several cousins.
