LYONS: Peter Santo Stirpe, 91, passed away on Saturday, August 3rd, peacefully in his home. Peter was born February 26, 1933 in Lyons, N.Y., son of Dominick and Mary (Lisi) Stirpe. He worked as a police officer (Lyons and Palmyra), Investigator for the Wayne County Public Defender, and County Personnel Officer. He was also the publisher of the Wayne County Star newspaper and ran his own print shop at Lyons Press. Peter served in the U.S. Army in Korea and was a retired Master Sergeant in the United States Army after a long career in the Army Reserve. Peter was a long time member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Lyons and a member of their Parish Council. He served as an elected Trustee of the Village of Lyons and was active in the Lyons American Legion. He was selected as the Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in 2018 for his service to the village.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Donna (Cole), of 69 years, sons Ronald (Nadine) of Pennsylvania, Dominick (Denise) of Rhode Island, and Daniel of Pennsylvania; six grandchildren (Corey (Tara), Dustin (Katie), Brandon (Courtney), Eric (Molly), Cassandre, and Luke), 8 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by brothers Anthony, Michael, Albert, Nicholas, infant Orlando, and sisters Jennie Garafalo, Louise Bertino, Anita Dagel, and Mary Garritano Calabra.
Friends may call on Friday, August 16th from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Boeheim-Pusateri Funeral Home, 77 William St, Lyons. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held (August 16th) at 11:30 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker, Lyons. A private entombment will be at St. John’s Cemetery, Clyde immediately following.
