August 7, 1946 – December 7, 2024
LYONS: Richard (Dick) Vandermark, a longtime resident of Lyons, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends last Saturday. Born on August 7, 1946, in Sodus, NY to Irene Tubbs and James Vandermark. He was raised in Sayre, PA before coming back to the Rochester area to start work in 1966. After meeting and marrying a Lyons native he spent his adult life in Lyons where he was a dedicated member of his community and known by many.
Richard’s life was marked by his many years of commitment to service and his hard work for supporting local organizations. A proud member of the Rotary Club for over 30 years, Richard also dedicated two decades to the Lyons Farmers Market. He was an active participant in the Chamber of Commerce and served on the Lyons Village Planning Board, making a lasting impact on the community he called home.
Richard was predeceased last year by his wife of 54 years, Marianne DeTorio Vandermark, whom he married on May 10, 1969. Together, they are survived by two children, Renee (Phil) Freivald and Richie (Nikolette) Vandermark. He is also survived by one beloved grandchild, Ainsley Mae Vandermark; as well as a brother-in-law John (Barb) DeTorio, sister-in-law Nancy Nesbitt and nieces, nephews and several special lifelong friends.
Richard was a devoted employee of Wegmans for an impressive 54 years, where his work tenure earned him a spot on the Times Square marquis for his 50th year of service having been their longest tenured employee.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Michael’s Church. A small graveside ceremony will take place in the spring, with details to be announced at a later date.
