PALMYRA: Winston, James M. “Mitt”; died on Friday, August 7, 2026 at the age of 86. Family and friends are invited to call from 5-7pm on Tuesday, August 11 at the Robert L. Yost Funeral Home, Inc., 123 W. Main St., Palmyra. A funeral service will be held at 11am on Wednesday, August 12 at the Lighthouse Baptist Church, 1000 Main St, Newark, NY 14513. Burial with military honors will follow in Palmyra Village Cemetery. A reception will be held at the Palmyra VFW following the burial. Born in Beckley, West Virginia on April 8, 1940, Jim moved to the Palmyra Area after service in the United States Navy. He was a member of the James R. Hickey American Legion Post 120 and the Palmyra VFW. The funeral home proudly flies the United States Navy flag in honor of Jim’s service to our country. Jim was a businessman and owner of Winston-Handy Welding, Inc for over 40 years. He was an avid golfer and devoted Nascar and Buffalo Bills fan. Jim was fond of spending a little time at the casinos as well.
Jim is predeceased by his wife Doris Drennen Winston; sons David and John Winston; sisters Bonnie and Donna and brothers Lacy, Tim and Pat Winston. He is survived by his sons James E. (Jan) Winston and Michael Winston; granddaughter Samantha, two great-grandchildren and special companion Carolyn Herman and friend of over 80 years Ron Hickman.
