Wood, Theresa

SODUS: Theresa was born at the Georgia Baptist Hospital on August 12, 1960, in Atlanta, Georgia, the daughter of Edward M. & Anita Barbara (Couture) Standridge. She was a graduate of M.D. Collins High School in College Park, Ga. She was a stay-at-home mother until her husband was out of the military. Afterward she continued her education and became a nurse. She worked 16 years in a medical office then moved on to care for residents in long term care at Newark Manor Nursing Home, one of the Hurlbut Care Communities. She retired after 15 years of service.

She enjoyed crocheting and the outdoors. But her love for the sport of bowling had her hooked. She bowled in many leagues over the last 30+ years in Wayne County. She was a Director for Wayne County Women’s Bowling Association and when the men and women merged, she became a director for the Lake Ontario Bowling Association (LOBA). She served as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Thursday Night Women’s League for (years), and Secretary/Treasurer of the Friday Business League for (years). She participated in Wayne County tournaments such as the Women’s County, Open Championships and Senior Singles. She also participated in NYS Women’s Open Championships, NYS 600 Club regionals and State Tournaments. She traveled out of state to participate in the Women’s National Championships and the Open Championships. She was inducted into the LOBA Hall of Fame in 2018.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Bruce A. Wood, son Dennis A. Wood, grandsons Clifford R.C (Olivia DeWick),; Zachary A. and Allen M,; great grandson Jordan DeWick,: great granddaughters Arabella C, Charlie M. and Georgia R. Wood,; sisters Barbara S. (Mike) Waldrop and Susan M. (Michael) Peeters of Locust Grove, Ga and brother-in-law Gary Hamby of New Smyrna Beach, Fla, 4 nephews and 1 niece.

She was predeceased by her parents Edward M. and Anita B. (Couture) Standridge, her brother Edward M. Standridge, Jr, sister Charlene Perdue Hamby and son Christopher Scott Wood.
