Red Creek Central School District is celebrating the launch of a new athletic opportunity for students this fall, as the district fields a new Modified Girls Volleyball team for the first time in school history.
The creation of the new program is a strong example of the impact student voice can have when paired with supportive school leadership. The idea for a Modified Girls Volleyball team grew directly from student interest, with students advocating for the opportunity to play and school administration supporting their efforts to turn that interest into a reality.
The girls who now make up the inaugural team spoke up about their desire to play volleyball, helping open the door to a new athletic opportunity for themselves and for future Red Creek students.
“We’re really proud to see our Modified Girls Volleyball program come to life,” said Dave Welcher, Red Creek Central Schools Athletic Director. “The decision to add the team was driven by student voice, and the girls on this team were the ones who advocated for its creation. They deserve a lot of credit for speaking up, showing initiative, and helping create a new opportunity for future Red Creek athletes.”
For the students, being part of the inaugural team is about more than learning the game. It is an opportunity to build friendships, challenge themselves and experience something new together.
“I’m excited to be the first ones to do it, try it out and have fun,” said one team member.
Another student said, “I’ve made so many new friends, and I’m really thankful for that.”
As the team begins its first season, the players are looking forward to competing, learning and representing Red Creek.
“I hope we win a lot of games and try our best,” said one student.
The creation of the Modified Girls Volleyball program represents another opportunity for Red Creek students to find their place, develop new skills and see the impact their voices can have within their school community.
