Rochester Blanks Hartwick, 5-0, to Improve to 6-0

Three players figured in two goals apiece as the University of Rochester defeated  Hartwick College, 5-0, in field hockey Wednesday afternoon at Edwin Fauver Stadium.
Megan Keil (Syracuse, NY/Camden) scored two goals. Callie Fisher (Wynnewood, PA/Country Day School) and Gina Cunningham (Pittsburgh, PA/Shady Side Academy) scored one and set up one. Rochester’s opening goal was scored by Michelle Relin (Lititz, PA/Manheim Township). It was her eighth goal of the season and the 44th of her career. Keil’s two goals pushed her into 11th place in career goalscoring (with 26) and 14th place in career points (with 63)
Rochester improved to 6-0 this year. Hartwick is 1-5.
Goaltenders Tara Lamberti  (Penfield, NY/Penfield - 35 minutes), Gabrielle Cantley (Antioch, IL/Antioch – 19 minutes, 50 seconds), and Kiran Sundaram (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery – 15 minutes, 10 seconds)  combined for the shutout.
Hartwick used four women in goal. Yanna Boggio (Amherst, NY/Amherst) played the first 50:10. She made 14 saves and allowed one goal. Shannon Carter (Falls Church, VA/J.E.B. Stuart) played 9:28. Laura Downey (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem) played 6:48 and allowed one goal. Jilian Sabatino (Boonton, NJ/Boonton) played 3:34. Hartwick’s Mikaelan Cucciarre Stuligross (Walton, NY/Walton) had a defensive save for the Hawks.
Rochester outshot Hartwick 31-1 and held a 9-1 advantage on penalty corners.
Relin opened the scoring at 6:32, tapping home a pass from Fisher six yards out. Keil notched her first of the match at 12:19 with an unassisted goal on a backhander from 10 yards out.
Fisher tipped in Cunningham’s pass to the top right corner at 42:43. Keil drove a shot from right wing to the low right corner after Mimi Adar’s (Rochester, NY/Brighton) pass at 50:10. Cunningham finished the scoring front in front of goal with Samantha Dow (Yorktown, VA/York) assisting at 64:12.
With the victory, Rochester evened its all-time record at 328-328-14. The first season of play was 1975.
