Spencer Speedway "Oval Of Fame"introduces second inductees

August 29, 2026
/ by WayneTimes.com

WILLIAMSON, NY – Race of Champions management is proud to announce the second inductees into the inaugural group that will be inducted into the Spencer Speedway "Oval of Fame," at Spencer Speedway on Friday, September 4.

Don and Marilyn Toal will follow the Spencer family into the “Oval of Fame” at Spencer. The Toal’s, who were two of the finest ambassadors in the history of short track racing were part of the fabric of not only Modified racing, but of Spencer Speedway. They started at the track, just after it opened and remained a part of it for the remainder of their lives. Over 50 years. Don drove the pace car for years and was the “on-track” announcer interviewing all the winners. He greeted everyone at the pit gate and then could be found in the tower most nights running the scoreboard, while Marilyn often sold tickets at the front gate. Those were not their only efforts, as they consistently raised lap monies and bonuses that went to the drivers and teams to help support the sport year-after-year. They are properly part of the group inductees into the “Oval of Fame” and remembered perpetually for their efforts at the speedway and throughout the region and by the entire Modified racing fraternity.

The induction ceremony will take place as part of the season finale, which will feature the Race of Champions Modified Series, Race of Champions Sportsman Modified Series, and Race of Champions 602 Sportsman Modified Series in their final appearances of the 2026 season at Spencer Speedway.

"There is nothing that can be said about Don and Marilyn (Toal) that hasn’t already been said other than we miss them being here to enjoy this honor," offered Joe Skotnicki, Race of Champions. "The Toal family has always been part of the Modified family and they are staples at Spencer Speedway. Their daughter Colleen serves in a very important office role on racedays at the track to this very day and we couldn’t be more proud of that. We are proud that we are able to honor two of the greatest ambassadors our sport has ever had one more time reminding everyone how important and influential they were. Establishing the Spencer Speedway 'Oval of Fame' and inducting them ensures their contributions will be remembered and celebrated for generations to come."

The evening's racing program will be highlighted by the Race of Champions Modified Series competing in a 60-lap feature event paying a minimum of $6,000 to win, while the Race of Champions Sportsman Modified and 602 Sportsman Modified Series will complete an outstanding night of open-wheel competition that reflects Spencer Speedway's rich Modified racing tradition.

The members of the inaugural Spencer Speedway "Oval of Fame" class will be announced over the coming weeks.

Additional information regarding the induction ceremony and race program will be released as it becomes available.
