Palmyra-Macedon (4-4, 3-1) girls varsity swimming and diving hosted Newark-Lyons for Homecoming 2024 on Saturday, Oct 5, 2024. The Red Raiders were victorious, winning 10 of 11 events. Seniors Jillian Anthony (200 IM 2:29.66, 100 Backstroke 1:11:48), Catie Kubasiewicz (Diving), and Ella Case (100 Free) all won their events. Sophomore Elianna Rouland (50 Free 30.82) and 8th graders Addison Henley (200 Free and 100 Breastroke) and Reese Newman (100 Fly) also won their events. Newark’s Melanie Bullock took the 500 Free in an exciting touch-out with 6:38.74.

Stand-out swimmers from Brockport: Delilah Thomas places first in 200 Freestyle and Ellie Jensen took first in the 100 Backstroke.
Stand-out swimmers from Gananda-Wayne: Three double first place winners: Sydney Richards in the 100 Fly and the 100 Breaststroke; Haley Conner in the 50 and 100 Freestyle. Natalie Schwandt in the 200 IM and the 500 Freestyle. Gianna Caracci placed first in Diving. Gananda-Wayne took first place in all three relays.

Palmyra-Macedon girls varsity swimming hosted Gananda-Wayne for the last home meet of the season, with Pal-Mac conceding the Finger Lakes League title, for the first time in five years, to Gananda. This is Gananda’s first League title in the school’s history.
Leading the way for Gananda was Sydney Richards in the 200 IM (2:31.56) and the 100 Breastroke (1:16.04). Haley Conner took the 50 Freestyle (26.40) and the 100 Freestyle (59.50). Natalie Schwandt won the 500 (6:30.01), and Gianna Caracci scored a 150.20 in diving. Emma Catalano won the 100 Backstroke (1:10.77), bringing Gananda’s total first places to 9 of 12 events.
Pal-Mac senior Jillian Anthony was a double winner, taking first in the 200 Freestyle (2:09.44) and the 100 Butterfly (1:07.06). Coaches Christopher Oaks and Rebecca DeSol are proud of their entire team for qualifying for sectionals in multiple events.
Pal-Mac coaches Christopher Oaks and Rebecca DeSol were quoted as thrilled for Gananda-Wayne, stating: "As neighboring districts, many of our girls swim together on club teams and during the summer at technique camps. Years from now, they may not remember their times or the scores, but they’ll remember the memories and fun they made with each other. Congratulations to Coach Dani Richards and her team!"

Varsity Tennis
Today the Lady Lions took on North Rose Wolcott in the quarterfinals of Team Sectionals. The match came down to 1st and 3rd singles, which both went into three sets! At first singles, Baylei Reed lost to Lauren Sears in her first set 4-6 and then came back to win the 2nd and 3rd sets 7-5, 6-3. Megan Taylor at 3rd singles also lost to Taylor Smith her 1st set 4-6, then came back to win the next two sets 6-0, 6-3. Also winning for the Lions was Sam Figueroa at 2nd singles 6-2 and then Lindsay Marriott retired due to an ankle injury. North Rose took both doubles matches. Julia Shipley and Shai Milan defeated Chloe Corbett and Addesyn Harkins 6-3, 6-1. Sophia Bush and Abby Alward defeated Braehlynn D’Amato and Carrigan Gould 6-2, 6-1.
