The Times is proud to honor Gananda cheerleader, Lacie Wynne, as its first Scholar Athlete of 2026.
The sophomore has established herself as one of the most-accomplished athletes on the squad at an early stage in her career. Now in her third year on varsity, Lacie serves as the team’s main flyer and is a Level 4 tumbler. Head coach, Jenn Pero, tells The Times that Wynne is "consistently performing at an elite level."
In 2025, Lacie earned First Team All-League All-Star honors and was named Team MVP. The previous season, she was recognized as Rookie of the Year before achieving national recognition as an NCA All-American that summer.
Lacie has also played a key role in the team’s continued success, contributing to a 2025 State Championship, 2024 and 2025 Sectional titles, and multiple Wayne County League Championships.
“It’s hard to put into words all that Lacie brings to the team," Pero, adds. "She is an outstanding flyer. When in a stunt group, she projects confidence that others try to emulate. Her skills in the pyramid are unmatched. She is brave, trusting, and always willing to try new skills. Most importantly, she puts the needs of the team before her own.
"With her leadership, confidence, and unmatched skill set, Lacie Wynne continues to set the standard for excellence both on and off the mat."
All honorees are nominated by county athletic directors.
