(Ontario - January 8, 2025) Last March, junior Cameron Blankenberg achieved an extraordinary milestone during the State Finals Championship basketball game against Glens Falls by scoring his 1,000th career point—an achievement few high school athletes attain by their sophomore year. This impressive achievement capped a remarkable sophomore season and solidified Cameron’s status as one of the area’s standout athletes.
This season, Cameron continues to break barriers. On January 3, he set a new school record by scoring 46 points in a single game, surpassing the previous record of 44. Just days later, on January 7, Cameron added another milestone to his legacy, becoming Wayne’s all-time leading scorer.
Cameron’s passion for basketball began at age four, inspired by his two older brothers, who both play at the collegiate level. Watching and emulating them fueled his drive and commitment to the game. "I always looked up to my brothers and wanted to follow in their footsteps," Cameron shared.
A dedicated athlete, Cameron trains rigorously throughout the year. In season, he practices or competes six days a week, while in the off-season, he plays in fall leagues, AAU tournaments, and pick-up games.
The camaraderie and competition fuel Cameron’s love for basketball. When asked about his favorite part of basketball, Cameron said, "I love being with my teammates and friends, winning games, and playing pick-up." His passion for the game is evident both on and off the court, where his leadership and dedication continue to inspire those around him.
Cameron’s excellence isn’t confined to the court. In addition to playing basketball, he is a member of the boys’ varsity tennis team, the National Honor Society, and the student senate.
His list of accolades is extensive, including being named All-Greater Rochester Player of the Year and earning a spot on the All-State Team. Looking ahead, Cameron aspires to continue his basketball career at the collegiate level.
