Marion Girls Soccer Wins Sectional Title; Advances in State Tournament

On Friday, October 27, the Marion Black Knights defeated Warsaw 3-2 to capture the Class C1 sectional title and finish off their season undefeated (19-0). Chloe DeLyser gave Marion the lead in the first minute of the game and scored again in the first minute of the second half to put Marion up 2-0.

Abigail DeFisher added another goal for Marion early in the second half to make it a 3-0 game. Warsaw (14-5-1) stormed back behind Grace Wolf’s two second-half goals, pulling Warsaw within a goal with 10 minutes to go in the game. Marion goalkeeper Emily Brown (4 saves) didn’t allow another goal, helping Marion advance to the state tournament.

On Tuesday, October 31, Marion played Addison in the Class C state qualifier. Chloe DeLyser scored two goals and added two assists, and teammates Sarah Lange, Jackie DeMarco, Angelina Gonzalez each scored 1 goal in a 5-0 win. Emily Brown had four saves. Marion takes their 20-0 record into the next round of play in the state tournament.

Class C Semifinal

No. 1 East Rochester/Gananda 14, No. 4 Bath 8

ER/Gananda (9-0) gave Cameron Cleveland the ball 39 times and he delivered with 171 yards and two touchdowns. And then the defense did the rest as Corey Chiccino tallied 20 tackles and Alex Vermette added 14 for the Bombers.

Class B Semifinal

No. 2 Hornell 49, No. 6 Palmyra-Macedon 29

Jack Henby rushed for 270 yards and five touchdowns on 29 carries for Hornell (9-0). The Red Raiders will face No. 1 Batavia in the finals at 3 p.m. Saturday at Rhinos Stadium.
